About the Artist
Kathleen Frost is an artist with a passion for color and expressing the beauty of nature.  She aims to stimulate the viewers to see beyond their normal realm, to expand their awareness of the environment . . . . .   to become aware of  a world of beauty and color that many never fully experience.

Kathleen was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Since attending the University of Pittsburgh, she has pursued her passion through extended studies in studio arts at the university and professional level and with master painters Philip Salvato and James Sulkowski. Classically trained, Kathleen has become a master of portrait, stil life and plein-air painting, establishing a reputation as an accomplished professional artist of outstanding talent. As a sculptor, she has studied mold making and casting to reproduce her portraits and figures.

Focusing primarily on portraiture, Kathleen finds capturing the essence, as well as the likeness, of an individual to be the most challenging and rewarding of all venues in art.   To that is added her genuine enjoyment of working with people.

As a plein-air  painter with a love of nature, Kathleen spends as much time as possible painting outdoors.  When traveling abroad she has enjoyed painting English and French landscapes, particularly  along the Brittany coast, as well as  in Bruges and Ghent.  At home, you may find her on any given corner on any given day trying to capture the charm of that particular neighborhood or in the country, lingering to capture the golden glow of sunset.

Preferring the Old World approach and using Renaissance recipes, she spends time in her studio grinding paints from powdered pigments, preparing mediums and varnishes and making her own panels,  striving to create an enduring work of art.

Kathleen's works are included in government, corporate and university collections, with portraits hanging in the permanent collections of the Capitol Complex in Harrisburg, the Senator John Heinz  Pittsburgh Regional Center and Robert Morris University.  Examples of portraits of prominent local men include the Honorable Dan Pellegrini, President Judge of the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania, advertising executive Jacque Kahn, also known as Mr. Pittsburgh and founder of the Golden Triangle Association, Dr. Edward Nicholson, President of Robert Morris University, William Susoeff of Rockwell International, Guy Squillante, founder and president of the Heritage Agency Inc. and Kenneth J. Yablonski, champion of coal minors' rights and founder of the law firm Yablonski, Costello and Leckie P.C.

For my paintings to be successful, they must infuse the viewer with the same creative passion I hold for the beauty that resonates throughout the natural world.
